🚰 Drains, Sinks, Toilets & Showers – Tenant Responsibilities
To ensure your home runs smoothly and to avoid unnecessary charges, it is important that all drains, sinks, and toilets are used and maintained correctly.
Please note: You are responsible for any blockages caused by misuse, as outlined in your tenancy agreement.
Drains
-
Never pour fat, oil, grease, or cooking grease (gee) down the drains.
-
Dispose of these items in suitable containers and place in your outside waste bins.
-
Do not pour rice, food, or other solids into the drains. These can block pipes and lead to expensive repairs.
Sinks
-
Do not pour fat, oil, grease, or gee down sinks; this hardens in the pipes and can cause slow drainage or full blockages.
-
Do not wash food items such as rice, noodles, or leftovers down sinks.
-
Blockages caused by misuse will be billed to tenants.
Toilets
-
Only toilet paper should be flushed.
-
Never flush wipes, sanitary products, condoms, food, or other unsuitable items.
-
Flushing inappropriate items can cause severe blockages and damage to the property, which will be billed to tenants.
Showers
-
Clean your shower regularly to prevent soap, hair, and debris buildup.
-
Use products such as Mr Muscle Power Drain Gel to help keep your drains clear.
-
Do not allow water to overflow or ignore slow drainage—this can cause damage to the property below.
-
Showers are for personal hygiene only, not for disposal of food or other waste.
Tenant Responsibilities – Drainage and Plumbing
Under the terms of your tenancy agreement, it is the tenant’s responsibility to ensure that all drains, sinks, toilets, and showers are used and maintained correctly. Tenants must take care to avoid flushing or pouring unsuitable materials down the plumbing, including fat, oil, grease, food waste, sanitary products, wipes, or any other items not intended for disposal via the drains. Any blockages or damage caused by improper use will be considered a breach of the tenant’s obligations and may result in the tenant being liable for any associated repair costs. Proper use of the drainage system ensures the property remains safe, hygienic, and fully functional for all occupants.
Important Reminder
Flushing or pouring items down drains does not make them disappear—it only delays the problem. Blockages or damage caused by misuse will be billed to the responsible tenant.
Act responsibly and help maintain your home in good working order at all times.
